You can use Yukon gold, Red or Russet potatoes for this cheesy scalloped potato recipe.

After cutting the potatoes into thin slices cut onions also thin slices just like potatoes and arrange them in the baking dish. Placing potatoes first and then onion. After placing them orderly season them with salt and pepper.

Now in a saucepan add butter and heat it over medium. After the butter melts add garlic and saute it for a minute and now add flour and whisk it and let it cook for a minute now add milk slowly and whisk it continuously and make sure there are no lumps formed. Keep whisking it until it becomes a thick mixture.

Now add cheeses I have used Parmesan, cheddar and Gruyere cheese and dry mustard and paprika and stir it until it becomes a smooth mixture. Then pour this cheese in the baking dish and sprinkle them again with the leftover cheeses and cover the dish with a foil and make sure you oil the foil so it the cheesy potatoes don’t stick to the paper foil.

How to Cook Scalloped Potatoes?

Bake it for 60 minutes at 400 degrees F in a microwave oven. Now remove the foil and bake it again for the second time around 20 to 30 minutes. Potatoes and the cheeses have to be melted for the gooey and cheesy look and broil if you want it crispier and sprinkle on top with the toppings and serve. The homemade cheesy scalloped potatoes are ready.

To make the potatoes cook easily you can also boil it. If you are boiling the potatoes then it will be very and creamy and will be cooked within half an hour in the baking process and you don’t have to keep cooking it for a long time. This makes your scalloped potatoes soft and extra creamy

You can add peas, sliced mushrooms, diced ham or add different cheeses as I did. These homemade scallop potatoes go well with everything.

You can also make scalloped potatoes ahead of time for this you have baked it for 60 minutes and let it cool and cover it tightly and place it in the refrigerator for about 2 days.

Now when you want to use it you can heat it at 400 F for 30 to 40 minutes again. This scalloped potatoes can also be frozen for 3 days and you can leave it in the refrigerator the night before you want to have it.
